Joker Heroine Ramya Pandian Says Success is not a Matter

When Joker hit the screens, Mallika’s character was one that every girl across the state could relate to. The role showed Ramya Pandian’s versatility as an actress as not many could connect her with quite the contrasting character she had essayed in her earlier movie, Dummy Tappasu.
After the audition, Raju Murugan told me I was selected for the role of Mallika. As I have previously seen Raju Murugan’s movies like Cuckoo, I had no inhibition when it came to playing a rustic role,” she recalls. She was suitably thrilled when Samuthirakani and Sivakarthikeyan called her up to congratulate her on her performance.

Ramya is not new to cinema as she is the niece of actor-producer Arun Pandian. However, she says that the passion she now has for it struck her after facing the camera for a few short films. “I am a bio-medical engineer from Anna University and worked as a business development manager. That is when I was approached for a short film. This led to a few more — and I realised that I had a passion for acting,” says the actress.

Ramya now plans to be selective about picking her roles, “But I want to capitalise on the huge break that Joker has given me. So I will take my time before signing any movies,” she says. The actress is also clear that she will balance her repertoire, combining a judicious mix of performance-oriented roles and a few commercial ones. We tell her that whatever she does, she is etched in the audience’s mind as the girl next door. She concedes that this is true, but is open to other roles too. “I will be comfortable doing glamorous roles that are without vulgarity. At the same time, it should be script-oriented,she points out. She may soon be signing a movie, in another couple of days, she adds.
